Runestaffs are kind of like staffs, but instead of having charges they let you convert your own spells into those in the staff.Название: Player`s Handbook: A Core Rulebook for the Fifth Edition of Dungeons & Dragons Crystals let you add some nifty powers to a weapon or a suit of armor, and if you change weapon you can move the crystal over. The most notable are weapon and armor crystals and runestaffs. So you don't have to choose between a Circlet of Blasting and a Headband of Intellect - as long as you can afford it (or be lucky enough to find it), you can have a Circlet of Blasting with a +2 Int bonus. It lets you combine utility items (with activated effects) with one bonus without paying a premium, as long as it's in an appropriate item slot. It has better treasure tables, accounting for item levels. So instead of the 8k gp Amulet of natural armor +2 and the 27k Robe of Scintillating Colors both being "medium" items, one is an 11th level item and the other 16th. It replaces the minor/medium/major item designation with item levels, based on market price. The DMG list of magic items is extremely top-heavy, and the MIC compensates for that. It adds a whole bunch of low-level items that are useful but not too powerful. I'll agree with the people recommending MIC. Oh and I think the artwork in both book is pretty good so thats also nice. They are not my favorite 3.5e supplement but they're good. It can add a bit of flavor to a campaign if the players find the set of an anciant hero.Īll in all, I think I prefer the Magic item Compendium but both books are nice. Also, the armor and item sets are pretty fly. The socketed items are a nice touch to modify existing weapons and helps the players care more about their stuff. Magic item Compendium: I used this book quite a bit and I like the optionnal rules inside. No more searching in 45 books for that weird spell when a player forgot where he took it from. All in all, It's a good book and it's great to get all those spells in one place. I usually allow pretty much anything from it. However, I'm not saying everything in the book is broken. I allow my players to pick spells from it but I tend to require they ask before choosing. I've had some cases of abuse from some players and had to restrict the use of this book. Spell Compendium: It's a neat book but honestly, some of the spells found inside seem a bit overpowered. I've got both of these books so I can give you some info.
